Current Volunteer Opportunities

All volunteers must be at least 18 years of age for insurance reasons.

BFPA is an all-volunteer organization and we could not exist without the volunteer efforts of professionals, college students, pet parents, and community members like you. BFPA is an all-foster home network meaning we have no facility, so volunteering does not always mean regular direct contact with animals, but every volunteer role is vital to helping our animals find their forever families.

We are typically most in need of volunteers who have leadership, planning and organizational skills to help run the ‘business’ part of the organization over time. These roles are so critical to our success and yet, often the ones that are hardest to fill, because everyone wants to volunteer with the animals, but these roles are very much FOR the animals.

Please see below for our current volunteer opportunities. For more information, please contact our Director of Volunteers.

DOG FOSTER TEAM MEMBER

Join our Dog Foster Team and be a part of the bridge that connects newly arriving rescue dogs to the start of a brand-new life in a safe and secure Foster home.  This is an important step on a dog’s journey to finding their new, forever home.

  • Track and maintain data related to foster dogs.
  • Provide assistance with dog placement into foster homes.
  • Grow the foster program by reviewing applications and assisting with onboarding new fosters!
  • Provide post placement support and resources to foster families!

Dog Adoption Event Coordinator

Are you organized and creative? We are searching for a volunteer to spend 3-5 hours a month helping coordinate dogs & humans for our adoption events. Key functions include:

  • Being the point of contact for people and businesses reaching out to schedule adoption event
  • Run canned report to determine available dogs and their fosters
  • Securing event hosts and available dogs to attend event
  • Coordinating with our webmaster and social media coordinator to publicize events.
  • This position also works with the BFPA Event Planning Team to showcase dogs at fundraising events, when requested.

The Dog Adoption Event Coordinator does NOT have to attend the adoption events unless they want to.  The Event Hosts take care of the logistics AT the event.

Event Hosts

Do you love furry friends and want to make a difference?  We’re seeking passionate volunteers to be Event Hosts at our pet adoption events, held at welcoming businesses like pet stores.  These events allow the public to meet our adoptable dogs and cats and learn more about BFPA.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Setting up a welcoming display table with informative materials.
  • Welcoming fosters and their adorable adoptable companions
  • Greeting the public with a warm smile and answering questions about BFPA and the adoption process.
  • Sharing your experience with the Events Coordinator to help us improve future events.

The Events Coordinator schedules the events, so you can choose shifts that fit your busy life.

Feline Photographer

We need a photographer (hobbyist or professional) who loves the challenge of capturing the beauty and personality of felines.

  • Must LOVE kitties and be comfortable handling them
  • Live near the Petsmart in Cary at Crossroads shopping center.
  • Able to go every week or two, during store hours, to photograph new kitties in the Cat Adoption Center.  Timing is flexible.
  • Communicate to our Cat Team about days/times you plan to photograph a few days in advance.
  • We will also be asking for an assistant, to help ‘herd the kitties’ for good pics :). If you know someone, have them apply as well!

Feline Photography Assistant

We need a photography assistant (aka kitty wrangler) who loves handling kitties and can help with getting them to pose for their photo shoots!

  • Must LOVE kitties and be very comfortable handling them
  • Live near the Petsmart in Cary at Crossroads shopping center.
  • Able to coordinate times for photo sessions with photographer via text or other electronic means of their preference.

Auction Collection and Tranport

We need a reliable, committed and organized volunteer to help with the collection, storage, labeling and transport of auction items starting now through the auction period.

Responsibilities would include:

  • Living reasonably close to Waverly Place (Tryon Rd & Kildaire Farm Rd, Cary) and having access to an SUV to transport donated items
  • Attend fundraising team meetings (usually first Thursday of the month, 7:30–8:30pm) from May–September since auction logistics are discussed
  • Assist with picking up donated items from around the Triangle (art, dog beds, gift cards, puzzles, toys, etc.) and storing them in a conditioned space
  • Taking multiple, clear photos (we’ll share examples) and uploading them to our Google Drive

MUST BE AVAILABLE Sept 8–13 for the following:

  • Group and label auction items with winners’ names by Sept 11 (auction ends Sept 7; we will provide a list of winners for the items)
  • Has a gmail account so google sheets for auction tracking can be accessed.
  • Deliver items to the pick-up location (usually Waverly Place – Hollywood Feed and/or Triangle Wine) on Sept 12 around noon (exact time TBD)
  • Ideally help other volunteers with auction pick-up on Sept 12 (usually 1–3pm), take leftover items home, and return them Sept 13 around noon.  We can have other volunteers work the pick-up on Sunday.

This is our 6th annual auction and our collections volunteers play a key role in ensuring the auction is a success by making the pick up of winning items an easy process.

This is a critical and time-sensitive role that requires a firm commitment.

FOSTER (Dog or Cat)

There are no more important volunteers to our rescue group than those who open their homes to our animals.  these wonderful souls give these formerly abused or abandoned cats and dogs love, gentle care, and a safe haven, something most of them have never known.  If you would like more details on what it takes to be a cat or dog foster, go to Foster an Animal.
